Wir hatten das grosse Vergnügen, vier Tage im Thattekad Nationalpark mit unserem Guide Vimal Niravath zu verbringen und es war in jeder Hinsicht eine herausragende Erfahrung.
Unser Guide verfügt über exzellente Kenntnisse darüber, auch was für Fotografen wichtig ist. Besonders beeindruckend war, dass er uns an verschiedene, sorgfältig ausgewählte Plätze geführt hat, sodass jeder Tag neue Eindrücke und fotografische Highlights bot. Seine Erfahrung und sein geschultes Auge haben uns zahlreiche besondere Beobachtungen ermöglicht, die wir allein nicht entdeckt hätten. Darüber hinaus war er ein äusserst gastfreundlicher, aufmerksamer und herzlicher Guide. Wir waren rundum zufrieden und empfehlen Vimal für Naturliebhaber und Vogelfotografen, die Thattekad intensiv und authentisch erleben möchten.

Wir verbrachten mehrere Tage mit Vogelbeobachtung und Vogelfotografie im Thattekkad. Dank unseres Guides Vimal Niravath konnten wir zahlreiche seltene und endemische Arten entdecken, die wir alleine niemals gefunden hätten. Seine große Erfahrung, Geduld und ausgezeichnete Ortskenntnis machten jede Exkursion zu einem besonderen Erlebnis.
Auch nächtliche Touren zur Eulensuche waren sehr erfolgreich. Mit vollen Speicherkarten kehren wir nun nach Deutschland zurück und freuen uns besonders darüber, dass Vimal uns auch nach der Reise bei der Bestimmung der Arten unterstützt.

We had the most amazing experience of birding with Vimal at Thattekad and Munnar in January 2026. His understanding of bird habitat and behaviour is unbelievable. Even when other experienced guides present there failed, he was able to precisely pin point the rare and most elusive birds with the precision of a surgon. This made the entire experience unforgatable. He is the best in the region without any doubt. To top it all he is such a courteous and caring person. I was with Vimal for three days at Thattekad, and had a fantastic experience tracking birds and doing a good deal of photography. Vimal is great at identifying the right spots to anticipate bird movement in advance, and needless to say, he has an eye for quickly noticing their silent presence in the thick forests of Thattekad. Vimal also helped give valuable tips during my photography which are good reminders when you are immersed in taking the shot, and gave me the right angles to take the shot from, with the light falling delicately and beautifully on each bird. It was a memorable trip and a must-do for any birding enthusiast, along with Vimal.

We birded with Vimal for 3 days and 2 night sessions in and around Thattekkad. He is an excellent guide, he knows the environment well and is excellent at finding the difficult birds. We saw most of the birds we hoped to see in a relatively short time including 4 owls and three nightjars during the night sessions. The Great Eared-nightjar and Spot-bellied Eagle Owl were highlights. We would recommend Vimal without reservation!
